"Real Housewives of DC": Crazy Like We've Never Seen

So remember when I said that “The Real Housewives of DC” couldn’t sustain interest until the famous White House gatecrashing episode?

Boy, was I wrong…

Cat is shaping up to be one of the biggest witches in “Housewives” history. She’s not afraid to open her mouth and that’s usually a bad thing. And she never follows protocol or etiquette, ticking off every socialite in town. But she is not the reason to watch…

We’ve seen crazy on “Housewives” before. Just look at Danielle from New Jersey. But we’ve never seen crazy like Michaele and Tareq Salahi.

First, Michaele throws a lavish birthday party for her friend, Paul, that she shows up late for. Then, Tareq—who makes me uncomfortable anyway—completely steals the spotlight from Paul, by using a sword to slice off the top of a bottle of his winery’s wine. Then, the next day, the Salahis’ attorney calls Paul and says they’re not paying for anything and didn’t come in the doors to the party until that was made clear.

But last week, the crazy hit another level when the Salahis invited all of the other Housewives to a grape stomping at their vineyard. During the trip, it’s revealed that the Salahis crashed another function—the Congressional Black Caucus Dinner—with some friends (They say it was a ticket mixup.). Then, the Housewives are greeted at the winery by security because of some legal battle with Tareq’s mother. And when it comes time to stomp the grapes, it’s clear that the grapes were store bought and not from the vineyard.

What in the world?

It’s becoming more and more evident that there are some serious issues here. But it’s also becoming more evident why Bravo decided to keep them in the show even after all the controversy. They’re so bizarre it’s fascinating. Tareq loves the spotlight and he doesn’t care who he shoves out to get it—including his own wife. In fact, I think Michaele seems like a Stepford Wife following whatever her husband wants. And what her husband wants is to give the impression that he’s a high roller when it’s becoming more and more obvious that he isn’t…

And it’s also obvious that I’m becoming more and more hooked on a show I didn’t think was even worth watching…

“The Real Housewives of DC” air Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo. New episodes will return September 9th...
