The New "Dancing" Cast Revealed!

Tonight during “The Bachelor,” the newest cast of “Dancing With the Stars” was revealed.

And maybe it’s just me, but I think it sounds a little blah…

The celebrities are: Kirstie Alley, “Psycho” Mike Catherwood (co-host of “Loveline Radio”), Chris Jericho (WWE), Chelsea Kane (“Jonas”), Sugar Ray Leonard, Ralph Macchio, Petra Nemcova, Romeo, Hines Ward, Kendra Wilkinson and Wendy Williams.

All of the usuals are there—the controversial star (Alley), the Disney star (Kane), the current football player (Ward), the retired athlete (Leonard), the supermodel/ex-supermodel (Nemcova), the singer/rapper (Romeo), the TV personality (Williams), the former major movie star (Macchio) and the reality star (Wilkinson). But I don’t think the names are as must-see as they have been in the past—especially last season.

The pairings with the pros will be announced later.

What do you guys think? Is there someone you’re looking forward to seeing?

"The Bold and the Beautiful" Gets a New Open

"The Bold and the Beautiful" has unveiled its new show open.

Although it flies by pretty fast, I really like it because it gives credit to all of the cast members and it beautifully sets up the show.

You immediately know the show revolves around fashion and because of the way the characters are positioned, you have a good idea of who is teamed up with whom...

You can see it here.

A New "Score" for NCIS Fans...

Here’s good news for “NCIS” fans…

The show’s composer, Brian Kirk, is releasing the CD, “NCIS: the Official TV Score.”

Each of the album’s 14 tracks were created by mixing various musical pieces from the show’s episodes into standalone suites of music.

The 15th track is the first commercial release of the “NCIS Main Theme.”

There is plenty more that I need to say. And at some point I will. But right now, again, I just have no words.

If you missed it, here’s a look at the interview segment with Charlie Sheen that aired this morning on “Today”…

ABC Snags Charlie Sheen Interview

This, my friends, is what you call must-see TV…

ABC has managed to snag the first televised interview with Charlie Sheen.
This could very well be the saddest thing to ever air on television…

ABC will show it on a special edition of “20/20” Tuesday, March 1st at 10 p.m. Segments will also be shown on “Good Morning America.”

Has NBC Cancelled Three Shows Without Airing Them?

It’s not unusual these days for a show to get cancelled after just one airing. But to cancelled without airing at all? Not so much.

But according to “New York Magazine,” that’s pretty much what NBC has done to three shows: “Love Bites,” “Friends With Benefits” and “The Paul Reiser Show.”

What happened? The shows were greenlighted under the old regime and the new Comcast regime doesn’t like any of them…

The shows could be burned off during the summer…

NBC Renews Three

NBC has renewed three of its reality shows…

“The Biggest Loser,” “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “The Sing-Off” will all be back next season…

Telling the Story of the Royal Couple

Lifetime will premiere its original movie about the royal couple in April…

“William & Kate” will premiere Monday, April 18th at 9 p.m. The movie stars Nico Evers-Swindell and Camilla Luddington.

Following the movie at 11 p.m., Lifetime will debut the first of six one-hour episodes of the documentary series, “Royal Wedding of a Lifetime,” which will chronicle all of the events surrounding the wedding.

The wedding is scheduled for April 29th.

"American Dad" Gets Another Season

And the Seth MacFarlane world domination continues…

FOX announced last week that it has renewed “American Dad” for a seventh season, allowing the show to air through the 2012-2013 season.

Among the guest voices still scheduled to appear this season are Anjelica Huston, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Burt Reynolds and Cee-Lo Green.

"Phineas and Ferb" Make Some Famous Friends

When “Phineas and Ferb” premieres its third season on Disney Channel, the gang will be bringing along quite a few famous friends…

Among the guest voices this upcoming season are Michael Douglas and his son, Dylan, Jane Lynch, Tina Fey, Michael J. Fox, Anna Paquin, Joan Cusack and Jamie Oliver.

“Phineas and Ferb” begins its third season Friday, March 4th at 9 p.m. on Disney Channel. The show also airs on Disney XD…

"The Golden Voice" Gets His Own Reality Show

This story really shouldn’t shock anyone…

According to the “New York Daily News,” Ted Williams, the formerly homeless man with “the golden voice,” is getting his own reality show.

It’s called “Second Chances at Life” and will track how his once promising radio career unraveled, how he became homeless, and how he found fame again through a YouTube video.

No network has been named for the show, but Williams’ Representative said an announcement will be made soon…

How This Year's Oscars Will Be Different

Tomorrow night is the Oscars, but producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer are promising a much different look…

In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter,” the producers shared some of the ways the telecast will be different this year:

1) Nine mothers and one grandmother of Oscar nominees will be tweeting during the broadcast.

2) The hosts, Anne Hathaway and James Franco, will be the first male-female hosting duo sharing the Oscar stage.

3) The set will be a virtual one, allowing it to constantly change.

4) An elementary school chorus from Staten Island, NY, will sing “Over the Rainbow.”

5) There will still be clips from the best picture nominees and brief filmed introductions to certain segments, but the full-blown montages are done.

6) The five-presenter testimonial for best actor and actress nominees is also gone.

7) Making a return are performances of the nominated songs. Randy Newman will sing “We Belong Together” (“Toy Story 3”), Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will duet “I See the Light” (“Tangled”), Gwyneth Paltrow will sing “Coming Home” (“Country Strong”) and Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine) will fill in for Dido and team up with A.R. Rahman for “If I Rise” (“127 Hours”). The producers told the “Reporter” they were seriously bummed that Cher’s number from “Burlesque” was not nominated.

The Oscars air Sunday, February 27th at 8:00 p.m. on ABC…

Lynda Carter Officially Passes Down Her Tiara

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” Lynda Carter has given her support to Adrianne Palicki , who was recently cast as Wonder Woman in the NBC pilot from David E. Kelley.

For those of you who can’t place Palicki, here is a publicity still of her from the failed FOX drama, “Lone Star.”

I think she could work well, but I’m going to withhold judgment until I see her in action.

IF we see her in action at all. Remember, a pilot does not a series make…

Today's Column: When Telling the Truth Hurts

I really hate giving bad reviews to things—especially when I’m so sure I’m going to love it. But I wouldn’t be a very good columnist if I didn’t tell the truth, whether good or bad.

If you’ve read my “Stay Tuned” column in today’s “Herald-Dispatch” you know that I didn’t like “All-Star Superman,” the newest DC Universe original animated movie. It made me so sad to admit that I actually thought of writing the column about something else just so I wouldn’t have to tell you.

But late Tuesday night, my column made me even sadder as I learned that the writer of “All-Star Superman,” Dwayne McDuffie, had unexpectedly passed away Monday. I actually became physically ill when I thought about how I had trashed a man’s final work.

Now I know that when I wrote my column late Monday night that I had no idea that McDuffie had died since it had not been reported yet. And again, I was just telling the truth, but still…

I would like to say for the record that even though I didn’t like “All-Star Superman,” I still respected McDuffie and his work. And my thoughts are absolutely with his family and his colleagues…

Kiefer Returns to TV, But...

I should be jumping for joy. Kiefer Sutherland is possibly coming back to television. But the project—and the person behind it—is leaving me less than thrilled…

“The Hollywood Reporter” reported this week that Kiefer has signed to star in the FOX drama pilot, “Touch.” Kiefer plays a father who discovers his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen.

The show comes from Tim Kring, who you may remember was the creator of a little show called “Heroes,” which completely broke my heart. So yeah. I’m a little worried.

Kiefer is currently on Broadway in “That Championship Season,” so production probably won’t start until late May. That means if “Touch” is picked up—which it likely will be—we won’t see it until mid-season.

NBC Gets the Final Jewel in the Triple Crown

No more chasing down which network has which leg of the Triple Crown…

NBC Sports Group announced that it has acquired the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, in addition to the rights it already had to the Kentucky Derby.

It will be the first time all three races have been shown on the same network since NBC aired them in 2005.

Another Judd Heads to TV

It looks like Naomi and Wynonna are not the only Judds coming to television…

According to Deadline.com, Ashley Judd is close to a deal to star in the new ABC series, “Missing.” The show is about a former CIA agent who travels to Europe to find her missing son. According to the post, production is scheduled to begin next month in Rome, Vienna and Prague.

The show was originally scheduled to premiere in the summer, but is now looking to move to the fall.

"The Judds" Gets a Premiere Date

OWN has announced the premiere date for the docu-series, “The Judds.”

The show will premiere Sunday, April 10th at 9 p.m.

Here’s the description from the OWN press release:

“For the first time on television, Judds fans and OWN viewers enter the private and public lives of country music icons, Naomi and Wynonna Judd, on the new docu-series ‘The Judds.’ Six episodes follow the award winning mother/daughter duo as they hit the road for their first and final concert tour in 10 years. Cameras capture their emotional journey as they work to heal their relationship, reconnect with their fans and share the spotlight once again. Viewers are fully immersed in Naomi and Wynonna's hectic world. They travel city-to-city meeting their loyal fans, head home to their 1,000 acre farm and go behind closed doors for emotional sessions with their long-time life coach Dr. Ted Klontz. The series is a moving exploration of the universal mother-daughter bond. In the end, by sharing their experiences, Naomi and Wynonna hope that others will be inspired to strengthen their own personal connections.”

I’ll have more on this as the premiere gets closer…

Prepare to Get "Mobbed"

The fad of flash mobs is now coming to TV…

FOX will premiere the special, “Mobbed,” Thursday, March 31st at 9 p.m. following “American Idol.” Host Howie Mandel will use the hidden camera concept to surprise ordinary people via flash mob with reveals such as a marriage proposal and a husband finding out his wife is pregnant.

In addition to seeing the actual performance, viewers will also see the participants preparing for the mob with guidance from Mandel…

I would SO love to participate in one of these, wouldn’t you? Maybe I need to get to work on that…

More on the Legacy of Dale Earnhardt...

When I was writing this week’s “Stay Tuned” column, my husband asked me how I remember that it was Sean McDowell who was telling the sports on 13 News the night Dale Earnhardt died. “I just remember,” I told him.

That moment is a tough one to forget for longtime NASCAR fans like me. After all, it changed the sport we love forever.

Sean and I have known each other for quite a while, but we had never spoken about that day until last week. Now, 10 years later, Sean remembers it just as crystal clearly as I do.

“It was a defining moment. Sports will never be the same,” he told me.

There are probably some who are reading this that think Sean is overblowing it a little, but I am certainly not one of them. Dale Earnhardt was not only the most popular athlete in his sport, he was also one of the most successful and still at the top of his game. Sean compared it to the death of Elvis Presley. For a more current example, I would compare it to the death of Michael Jackson. But both comparisons are correct. Both deaths left a huge hole in an entire industry. Earnhardt’s death left a huge hole in his industry that I don’t believe has ever been filled.

But not only did it leave a hole in NASCAR, it completely changed the sport as we know it. Though still very dangerous, NASCAR racing is much, much safer than it was 10 years ago. And NASCAR is still making tweaks on a weekly basis to keep the drivers even safer.

For me, Earnhardt’s death also changed the way I watch races. I’ve been watching NASCAR since I was a kid. But I admit I had grown complacent about wrecks. After all, I had seen guys walk away time and time again. And the wreck in turn four that claimed Earnhardt’s life didn’t look like that big of a deal.

As Sean told me, “It was the most incredulous moment of my career. I looked at someone in the newsroom and said, “You’ve gotta be kidding me.’ Dale Earnhardt does not die.”

I was thinking that exact same thing that day, only I carried it one step further. If Dale Earnhardt could die, then no one was safe—and not just on the track.

So now when I watch a race—especially at Daytona or Talledega—every wreck is a big deal until I see the face of the person who was in it, telling us he’s alright.

But even with all of that, Earnhardt’s true legacy won’t be found on the track…

People have been saying that it’s safety and the changes that were made within NASCAR. But I would say his most important legacy is that 10 years later, his death still stands as a reminder that no one knows what’s going to happen on any given day. So we should make sure everyone we love knows it.

I’m betting if we could talk to Dale right now, he’d say he left this world with no regrets. Wouldn’t we all like to be able to say the same?

If you’d like to share your thoughts, feel free to post a comment or find me on Twitter or Facebook.

SPEED presents “The Day: Remembering Earnhardt” Friday, February 18th at 10 p.m. and Saturday, February 19th at 7:30 p.m. The Daytona 500 airs Sunday, February 20th beginning with the pre-race show at noon on FOX…

My Thoughts on Super Bowl XLV

So let me start off by saying that the most important thing about the Super Bowl is the game itself. And it was a great game.

So let me say congratulations to the Green Bay Packers! I am thrilled for Aaron Rogers for finally getting the monkey off his back…

But you can’t deny that the Super Bowl is also about the spectacle and the commercials. So let me start with the spectacle…

I feel SO sorry for the players who have to stand there for what seems like forever during all the pomp and circumstance. I’m as big of a patriot as the next person, but is it really necessary to do both “America the Beautiful” and “The Star Spangled Banner”? And while we’re discussing that, why didn’t they just let Lea Michele do the National Anthem? Her rendition of “America” was flawless (although it may have been lip-synched) and I’m sure everyone knows by now what happened with Christina.

As someone who gets major stage fright singing in front of people, let me defend Christina a little bit by saying I can see it being entirely possible that she would get so caught up in the moment that she would lose her place (as she said in her post-anthem statement). The problem is that she was making such a bold statement with the whole a capella vocal acrobatics that she was almost daring people to find fault. And boy, did she give them one. Vocally, I thought it was just okay and WAY too long…

There has been A LOT of discussion about The Black Eyed Peas halftime show, but allow me to still add my two cents. My problem was not with The Black Eyed Peas (Except that I really wish they would stop trying to make “The Time” happen. Some songs you should never mess with!). I happen to be a fan of theirs and have seen them do a number of electric TV performances. The problem was with that sound mix. will.i.am’s microphone was ridiculously loud and then when Fergie’s didn’t work they turned it up extra loud to where she was almost shouting—and off-key at that! You couldn’t even hear the music!

The most electrifying part of the show—Usher—didn’t even attempt to sing because he knew there was no use. If the NFL is going to make such a big deal out of the halftime show, then it needs to be good. The technical problems, in my opinion, were inexcusable…

As was Fergie’s terrible Axl Rose impersonation on “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” I’m sure I’ve heard her sing better than that live, haven’t I?...

All of this raises a question. If the NFL was looking for a family friendly artist that would appeal to younger people, why didn’t it just go with the cast of “Glee”?...

Now, on to the commercials. “USA Today” can give the crown to Doritos and Bud Light if it wants too, but all the talk I’ve seen/heard today has been about two ads—Volkswagen’s “Use the Force” and Chrysler’s “Imported From Detroit” featuring Eminem. The Eminem ad was hands down my favorite. As soon as it went off, I said out loud, “That was good!” and immediately grabbed my iPhone to Facebook about it. I enjoy funny commercials, but I like the powerful ones too.

The Volkswagen ad was adorable. And I also liked the Justin Bieber-Ozzy Osbourne Best Buy ad, although I think I might have been the only one…

I also liked the Joan Rivers GoDaddy.com spot, the Teleflora spot with Faith Hill, the Chevy Cruze ad in the nursing home, and the Pepsi Max spot with the woman throwing the can at her boyfriend and hitting the hot girl he was staring at instead (Was it just me or were all the Pepsi Max ads a little violent?)…

FOX deserves a thumbs-up too for their show promos—especially the “House” promo parodying the classic Coke Mean Joe Greene ad. And the NFL ad featuring characters from classic TV shows had some seriously good CGI since hardly any of those characters ever wore any of those outfits originally…

Minus the National Anthem and halftime glitches, I thought the broadcast over all was a really good one. And though I snickered at first, I thought FOX’s reading of the Declaration of Independence before the game began was pretty cool too (although the ending was a little undramatic). I especially liked seeing Anthony Munoz in the middle of that farm in Waynesville, Ohio.

So what did you guys think? Did you have a favorite commercial? And what did you think of the halftime show? Share your thoughts by posting a comment, or hit me up on Facebook or Twitter…

So What Were the Best Super Bowl Commercials?

Well, Super Bowl XLV is in the books, and what a great one it was. The commercials were also pretty good too…

I’ll have much more of my thoughts on the game, the commercials and the halftime show tomorrow, but for now, I wanted to share my three favorite commercials

Volkswagen: “The Force”

Best Buy Buyback Program with Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne

Those two were pretty close, but without a doubt, my favorite was this powerful ad from Chrysler featuring Eminem.

As usual, my choices are nowhere close to the choices of the people who participate in the “USA Today” Ad Meter poll. They chose the Doritos commercial with the dog crashing through the door and the Bud Light commercial with the dog sitter making the dogs work his party as their favorites. The Volkswagen commercial was #3.

So which ones were your faves?

"Sons of Guns" Review: Showing True Respect for a Local Hero

“Somewhere between a rare privilege and a high honor.”

That’s how Will Hayden describes being in the presence of Congressional Medal of Honor Winner, Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, on tonight’s episode of “Sons of Guns.”

“Guns” is a docu-series that follows Will, his daughter, Stephanie, and the rest of the crew at Red Jacket in Baton Rouge. Red Jacket is a unique gun shop where they not only sell guns, but they also customize, repair and restore guns and other weapons.

It’s the restoration part of the business that involves Cabell County resident Woody (His last name is never given during the show.) as he entrusts Will and the gang to restore his World War II flamethrower after they meet at the World War II museum.

I don’t think it’s a surprise that the crew fixes the flamethrower rather easily. The real drama comes after the repairs as Will reveals the reason behind his hesitation to fire it.

Also in the episode, Stephanie shows her gun knowledge to a customer trying to scam the shop and Will teaches a pretty important lesson about using guns as home defense.

The show does a great job balancing the nuts and bolts of the flamethrower repair with a history lesson and it manages to mix in some humor too. Several things actually made me laugh out loud.

But in the end, the episode is all about Woody. If you’ve read the story in today’s “Herald-Dispatch,” you know that some dramatic license has been taken in the episode. But don’t let that get in your way of enjoying a fun and important half-hour. I say important, because it pays great tribute to Woody and his heroism during the war as each member of the Red Jacket crew is humbled by his accomplishments. Anyone watching will gain a great deal of respect for Woody and his comrades as well.

Plus, how can you resist watching an 87-year-old veteran fire a flamethrower?

“Sons of Guns” airs tonight (Wednesday, February 2nd) at 9 p.m. on Discovery Channel. You can watch clips from the episode here.
